The Town of Vegreville                                                                                                                                Vegreville is a small rural town just minutes east of Edmonton.  It was founded as a town in 1906, and the primary economic driver of the community is agriculture.

As with many communities in Alberta, a large portion of the population descends from the Ukraine. A novelty of the community is that it is home to the planet's biggest pysanka, which is a large Ukrainian easter egg. It was built to coincide with the 100th birthday of the RCMP and to celebrate the ethnic heritage of the town.

Vegreville has a very close relationship with the armed forces, especially the 41 Combat Engineer's. Although based in Edmonton, the regiment has the freedom of Vegreville and marches every year through the community on November 11th.

The CN railroad goes directly through the middle of Vegreville. East it goes off to Lloydminster, west it heads to the capital city of Edmonton.
